PCU Electrical Engineering Department Celebrates 42nd Dies Natalis

Surabaya, 31 May 2024 – Petra Christian University’s Electrical Engineering Department celebrated its 42nd Dies Natalis with the theme “Powering Smart & Sustainable Future through Electrical Engineering & Internet of Things”. The event brought together alumni and current students to engage in discussions about the future of electrical engineering and the role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in shaping a sustainable world.

One of the event’s highlights was a presentation by alumnus Radita Sonix, ST., MBA., founder of IQ DEVPRO®. Sonix, who graduated from Petra Christian University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, has since built a remarkable career with extensive experience in engineering, marketing, and business development.

Sonix’s presentation, titled “IoT for Asset Management in Power Generation”, delved into the evolution of power plant technology from digitization to digitalization and ultimately to digital transformation. He explained how automation and IoT serve as crucial bridges in this transformation, enabling real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance without human intervention. Sonix concluded his presentation by emphasizing the future skills necessary for engineers and general workers to thrive in this evolving landscape. According to the World Economic Forum, these skills encompass not only technological proficiency but also self-management, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

Expressing his excitement and pride, Sonix stated, “I am honored to be invited to this event to share my knowledge and experience with the academic community. I hope that future graduates and the Electrical Engineering Department can stay competitive with the latest technological advancements”.

The celebration also showcased Petra Christian University’s Electrical Engineering Department progress over the past 42 years. Updates on recent developments highlighted advancements that benefit students, alumni, and the broader community. Attendees had the opportunity to tour two new state-of-the-art laboratories: the Smart Factory Laboratory and the IoT Laboratory. The IoT laboratory even feature simulations and mock-ups of smart living apartments connected through IoT, exemplifying the practical applications of the department’s cutting-edge research and technology.

The event underscored Petra Christian University’s commitment to fostering innovation and equipping its students and alumni with the skills needed to lead in a smart and sustainable future.
